Ayr register vital point

Ayr moved out of the Scottish League One relegation play-off place, but could have taken all three points against 10-man Brechin in a match that finished 2-2.

Robert Crawford and Michael Donald spurned chances for the hosts, before Andrew Jackson scored for Brechin with a fine finish, right footed high into the net nine minutes before the break.

Ian McCall made a double change at half-time, and his tactical alterations worked as Ayr scored twice in the first eight minutes after the resumption.

Brain Gilmour headed into the top left corner from an excellent left-footed Donald cross, then after 53 minutes Jon-Paul McGovern smashed in a penalty after Craig Molloy brought down Nicky Devlin.

Brechin, however, came away with a point when Paul McLean slammed in after 74 minutes, although they had to hold on after Callum Tapping received two yellows within 35 seconds late on.
