Axel Witsel has been on Chelsea’s radar for quite some time now and finally Jose Mourinho has decided it is time the attacking midfielder joined the Blues.
The 26 year old was instrumental in Zenit St Petersburg’s assault on the Russian League title which they managed to win under former Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas. It is believed that Zenit’s asking fee is in the region of £30million, a reasonable price for an attacking player.
AC Milan and Tottenham are believed to also be seriously interested in the player though a Milan move is unlikely as the player has previously expressed a desire to play in England. A move to Chelsea would reunite him with former Shakhtar teammate Willian.
Witsel would probably play as one of the three behind the striker at Chelsea though it is uncertain whether he would actually assume a starting position giving the quality he would have to surmount at Stamford Bridge. However, Jose seems to have big plans for him as he has requested owner Roman Abramovich go to Russia and hold talks with Dyukov Vleryevich to make sure a move is agreed.
