Naysmith set for fitness test

East Fife player/manager Gary Naysmith is an injury doubt ahead of the visit of bottom of the table Montrose.

Naysmith will put himself through a fitness test before kick-off along with Stevie Campbell and Nathan Austin as the Fifers look to bounce back from their midweek 4-1 defeat from Berwick Rangers.

Julen Etxabeguren is missing with an ankle injury and Liam Smith is on Scotland Under-19 duty.

"We played poorly against Berwick and there is no hiding from that," Naysmith admitted. "We had played well against Arbroath last Saturday and then came up well short in midweek so we will look to put that right against Montrose."

The Gable Endies will be without the suspended Terry Masson and the injured trio of Leighton McIntosh (knee), Bryan Deasley (knee) and Stephen Day (ankle) as they look to spark a revival in their season.

Manager Paul Hegarty said: "We won well against Arbroath recently however we failed to build on it in the games we have played since and are running out of games to do so. The players are certainly capable of getting a result against East Fife if they play like they can.

"I would settle for a 1-0 scrappy win to give our survival hopes a real shot in the arm."
