Northampton throw away two-goal lead to draw with Newport

Northampton's week went from bad to worse as they threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Newport.

Goals from Sam Hoskins and Marc Richards put the Cobblers in a commanding position before Scott Barrow and Lenell John-Lewis clawed it back.

Northampton got off to a flying start after 11 minutes when Nicky Adams robbed Newport defender Barrow down the right and delivered a ball for Richards.

The captain's shot was saved but Hoskins was on-hand to tuck the ball away.

It got worse for the Exiles after half an hour when Richards rattled home a free-kick from 25 yards.

But less than a minute after kick-off County pulled a goal back through wing-back Barrow, who struck a John-Lewis knock-down on the half-volley into the bottom corner.

And the comeback was complete after 38 minutes when John-Lewis found a yard of space on the edge of the penalty box and squeezed a shot beyond Adam Smith.
