Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielder Luka Modric picked up a thigh injury during Croatia's Euro 2016 qualifier against Bulgaria.
Modric was forced from the field at half-time during his country's 3-0 victory against the Bulgarians and was forced to sit out Tuesday night's 1-0 win in Malta - a result that clinched Croatia's automatic qualification for next summer's European Championship in France.
The 30-year-old former Tottenham playmaker subsequently underwent tests and Real revealed the extent of the injury on Wednesday.
A statement on their website read: "Following tests carried out on Luka Modric by the Real Madrid medical team, he has been found to have a muscular injury in the adductor muscle in his right leg.
"His situation will be closely monitored."
No time frame has been given for Modric's recovery.
Real return to Primera Division action on Saturday at home against Levante.
