Argentina cruise to friendly win

Argentina had Lionel Messi on the bench and missed several chances but managed to beat El Salvador 2-0 in Washington. Sevilla midfielder Ever Banega and Independiente striker Federico Mancuello scored the goals in the second period as Argentina celebrated a comfortable win in their first friendly of the year. Coach Gerardo Martino used this exhibition to test some players ahead of the upcoming Copa America in Chile and the World Cup qualifiers.Consequently, defenders Rogelio Funes Mori, Lucas Orban and Mateo Musacchio, midfielders Roberto Pereyra and Mancuello, and goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman had their opportunity.It took them a while to get going but five minutes after the interval, Carlos Tevez hit the right post with a right-footed strike after an Angel Di Maria pass.In the 54th minute, Banega got the ball from Di Maria, shot from outside the box and it was deflected by defender Nestor Renderos before nestling into the back of the net.The second came when Mancuello tucked in a free-kick with four minutes remaining. Argentina's next test will take place on Tuesday when they play Ecuador in New Jersey.
