The transfer news breaking this afternoon revolves around a forward signing for Liverpool which is widely reported to be nearing completion. Cristian Benteke looks set to complete a £32.5m move from Villa Park to Liverpool after the Anfield outfit triggered the release clause of the Belgium international's contract. The player will become the second most expensive signing in the club’s history and after a lengthy spell keeping tabs on the player it seemed that the asking price would be too large a hurdle. The Reds were initially unwilling to meet the asking price and it seems that the windfall from the sale of Raheem Sterling could have provided the necessary investment to invest in the capture of Benteke say reports. The 24-year-old has scored an impressive 49 goals in 101 appearances for Villa and was certainly a major factor in helping the midlanders survive relegation with 12 goals in the last 12 matches for new boss Tim Sherwood after recovering from a ruptured achilles. Liverpool have gone on a spending spree that has hit the £80million mark with James Milner, Danny Ings, Joe Gomez, Nathaniel Clyne, Roberto Firmino and Adam Bogdan all joining this summer. Cristian Benteke joined Aston Villa in 2012 from Genk who also stand to profit from the sale.
